SABC News, KwaZulu-Natal student deaths under the spotlight, 14 August 2004

A prayer service to highlight the problem of unnatural deaths of students studying at universities around KwaZulu-Natal is taking place at Durban's Howard College campus. In the last two years at least 60 students from the University of KwaZulu-Natal have died.

Women have been killed by their boyfriends, others through HIV/Aids and men have committed suicide after turning their guns on their girlfriends. Premier S'bu Ndebele has made a special plea to save the country's young men and women.

Various religious denominations are also present at the ceremony.
